When we opened PARMA HOBBY in 1995 on Ridge Road in Parma, Ohio it was in a former photography studio that we renovated ourselves. We turned nine little studio/offices and storage area into a retail store!
PARMA HOBBY does a lot of community outreach. From 2000- 2005 we sponsored an interactive children’s area known as Kiddie Hawk at the Cleveland National Air Show. We have taught classes on model building, rocketry and model trains at several area institutions, including the Brecksville Center for the Arts, Polaris Career Center and for the North Royalton Saturday Enrichment Program at the North Royalton Middle School. Twice a year we provide a full complement of classes in our classrooms on the second floor with classes in airbrushing, train layout design, scenery building, model building, rocketry and anything else people request. These classes are taught by local experts. The classes are always well attended.
We put on programs and demonstrations for youth and scout groups throughout the area. We encourage scout/youth group leaders to visit the store and talk to us about programming that may be of benefit to their members.
Every year in April we present AutoFest, a competition for plastic car model builders. The models are judged by members of the North Coast Automotive Modelers, a local club that meets at the Garfield Recreation Center.
This kind of community involvement is important to keeping hobbies alive. We introduce many new people to the fun, relaxation and enjoyment of hobbies. Our motto is: ENJOY LIFE, GET A HOBBY!
Our local walk-in retail customers can tell you that our service is absolutely terrific. Most of our products are available by phone order and come with the same A-1 quality service. If we don’t have what you need in-store, we can get it for you – special orders don’t upset us!
